Ramadan the month of bounties and blessings has started and has already knocked our doors. Families have stocked all the essential items for the month of Ramadan so that they can utilize their productive time to seek Allah’s forgiveness and mercy.
In this Ramadan most of us are experiencing what we have not in previous Ramadan because of the scorching heat in which to keep fast is the toughest task yet Muslims are doing it for sake of Allah Almighty as Hadith narrates:
“Every action of the son of Adam is given manifold reward, each good deed receiving then times it’s like, up to seven hundred times. Allah the Most High said, ‘Except for fasting, for it is for Me and I will give recompense for it, he leaves off his desires and his food for Me.’ for the fasting person there are two times of joy; a time when he breaks his fast and a time of joy when he meets his Lord, and the smell coming from the mouth of the fasting person is better with Allah than the smell of musk.” [Imam Bukhari]
Due to heat Muslims are keen to quench their thirst and eat less incase to hydrate them, which is not a good practice. There are other healthy tips that Muslims can follow to keep fit and in good shape in this entire month of Ramadan.
- Start Iftar with Dates:
Date is nutritional and consist almost every essential ingredient to break your fast. It was the custom of our Prophet Muhammad PBUH) to breakfast with dates and hence recommenced it for all of the Muslims to follow his footsteps.
“Anas Bin Maik narrates that Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) used to break his fast with fresh dates before going to prayer. When fresh dates were unavailable, he would break his fast with dried dates. When dried dates were unavailable, he would take a few sips of water.” [Sunan Abi Dawud]”
Besides Spiritual, breaking fast with dates has scientific significance as well as dates are important source of sugar, which is required by human body. This amount of sugar replenishes the energy that we lost throughout the day of fasting. It is enrich in fibers, which help in the regulation of bowl movements and are rich in potassium and magnesium required by human body.
- Stay Hydrated:
This Ramadan comes at the peak of summers, as the summer will hit 45 degrees and above. Drink as much water as you can but not to fill yourself entirely with water so that you cannot attain and store energy as well. Make sure that you drink enough water once you break your fast in order not to remain thirsty after all.
This practice is good and productive for those who have to offer Taraveh after Isha prayers. This habit will scientifically keep your body cells hydrate and you will not fill thirst for rest of the day.
- Refrain from Salty and Sugar foods:
Eating sweet food after Iftar leads to bloating and cause delay in digestion. This leads to fluctuation in the sugar level, which can cause serious issue to the digestive system. That is why it is recommended to eat the sweet food after 2-3 hours to regulate the sugar level as the body breaks the sugar faster making you hungry sooner.
More the food will be salty the more it will give you thirst and will make the fast difficult for you. Consumption of salt is otherwise not recommended as it unbalances the ions level and can affect the blood pressure, which can turn into dangerous disease.
- Divide your Meal:
Indeed this is the gross problem that we eat everything at one time and do not let our body to digest it properly that is why the doctors quoted too many patients suffering from stomach issues in Ramadan. Take care of yourself as you eat to live rather live to eat that is why dividing your meal into proper portions and timings helps in health stability.
Iftar, evening snacks and suhoor is like the three daily meals which is necessary and this practice will allow you to avoid over eating during rest of the day and will keep you healthy. Eat mix food including fruits, veggies and a bit of meat to be in a balanced diet.
- Never Forget to Exercise:
Add exercise to your daily meal is beneficial for your health as it leads to the easy consumption of food avoiding storage of fats. Exercise leads to healthy weight and healthy lifestyle.
If you eat healthy food and do vigorous exercise then this Ramadan despite being too much hotness and humidity will not affect you and you can achieve the level of divinity you have kept in your mind and heart.
