Importance of Fajr Prayer | Blessings and Benefits in Islam

In religion, Islam prayer is obligatory on every Muslim. Prayer is the second pillar of Islam. Muslims should offer Salah five times a day because it is an obligation upon Muslims. We can connect to Allah Almighty through prayer or worship Him. Every step that we take towards Him is due to His divinely gifted ability that He gave us we can say it (tawfiq) which He blessed us with so that we can worship Him. It is the prayer that helps a Muslim differentiate him or herself from people of other beliefs when it comes to worship. Prayers are a means of invoking Allah Almighty and seeking His attention. In Holy Quran, Allah Almighty says: “Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds and establish prayer and give Zakah will have their reward with their Lord, and there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.” (Quran, 2:277)

Muslims have five obligatory prayers to offer every day. The start of these prayers takes place with the prayer of Fajr, its timing starts at the beginning of dawn until sunrise. This is an especially valuable time for spiritual practice. The time for the Fajr prayer is a time of light and barakah and spiritual blessings. It is a blessed time, and one need not worry about losing sleep, for, with proper spiritual practice, the human body and mind become energized with life-energy and force for the rest of the day. In Holy Quran Allah Almighty says about the importance of Fajr prayer in a way that: “So establish the Prayer after the declining of the sun (from its zenith, for Dhuhr and then ASR) to the dusk of night (Maghrib and then ‘Isha) and the (Quranic) recitation of Fajr [prayer].  Indeed, the (Quranic) recitation of Fajr is witnessed.” (Quran, 17:78)

Blessings and Benefits of Fajr Prayer

Below we are discussing the blessings and benefits of Fajr prayer under the light of different hadiths of Prophet (SAW) and various verses of Holy Quran.

  • Protection from Shaitaan: Prophet (SAW) said: “Whoever offers the Morning Prayer, he is under the protection of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime” (Ibn Majah).
  • Rescuing from Hell: Among Muslims whoever offers the Fajr and Maghrib prayer will not enter Hell. The thing to consider in this regard is that one does not get expiated from Hell by offering a single Fajr and Maghrib prayer, rather one needs to do it with consistency. There is hadith related to this: “Whoever performs the Prayer before the rising of the sun and the Prayer before its setting will not enter Hell.”(Muslim)
  • Invites positive Energy into our lives: Fajr prayer ensures that we begin the day with light and with life. This equates to positive energy and the presence of Lord’s angels. Allah Almighty says in Holy Quran: “Establish prayer at the decline of the sun [from its meridian] until the darkness of the night and [also] the Quran of dawn. Indeed, the recitation of dawn is ever witnessed” (Quran, 17:78). Early morning sets the tone and energy for the whole day, and by beginning the day in the best possible way.
  • Fajr teaches us the importance of time: Salah teach you that time is so precious. Therefore, we need to use it well and structure our day and make the best use of it. The prayers are at specified times during the day, to bless us and to keep us grounded. Prayers remind us that we are here in the world to worship Allah (SWT).
  • Allah’s Protection: Prayer is a means of invoking Allah Almighty. While invoking Allah Almighty Muslim can ask anything from Allah Almighty. One thing that Allah Almighty provides a Muslim without asking is His protection about which Prophet (SAW) said: “Whoever prays the Fajr prayer, he or she is then under Allah’s protection. So beware, O son or daughter of Adam, that Allah does not call you to account for being absent from His protection for any reason.” (Muslim). From this hadith, we can conclude that the one who offers Fajr prayer is directly under the protection of Allah Almighty.
  • The reward of praying Fajr in Congregation: Our beloved Prophet (SAW) said: “Whoever prays the morning prayer in congregation then sits remembering Allah until the sun rises, then prays two units of prayer has the reward like that of Hajj and `Umrah.”(Tirmidhi)

In short, other than the obvious blessings and benefits of offering Fajr prayer as discussed above, the offering of Fajr prayer starts the day of a Muslim with the name of Allah and gives him or her right foundation to have a pure day that is spent under the blessings of Allah Almighty. We are being invited by Divine Lord five times daily and it begins with Fajr prayer. Starts your day with Fajr Prayer and it will add blessings to your entire day. May Allah Almighty give us the strength to Offer obligatory prayers that is five times a day regularly! Ameen
