The Open Challenge Of Holy Quran To Disbelievers

Allah Almighty is the wisest and all knowing and the ordinary human mind often cannot get to the wisdom hidden behind His decisions. Similarly, Allah chose the best persons to be his Prophets to perform the job of being reformer of a nation and to tell them about good deeds and refrain from evil ones.

Challenge of Holy Quran

The miracles of Prophets (A.S.):

In order to empower these pious people to do their job efficiently, Allah granted them with different miracles and wonders. Allah selected the miracle out of the field of which these nations had excelled to make the magnitude of the message clearer and easily comprehensible for the people. Similarly, Allah bestowed the miracle of Quran to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who is also the last of the Prophets and there will be no Prophet after him. Allah says in Holy Quran,

“We shall show them Our signs on the horizons and within themselves until it will become clear to them that it is the Truth. Does it not suffice that your Lord is Witness over all things?” (41:53)

The legacy of Arabic literature:

Arabic is a very powerful, eloquent, and rich language and many scholars have endorsed this particular claim of Arabs. The Arabs at the time of Holy Prophet (PBUH) were generally illiterate and totally oblivious of any scientific knowledge. However, they were far superior to the other nations because of greatness of their language. Furthermore, they created the masterpieces of poetry that are comparable with that of any other language. Arabs were so proud of their literature that they used to call non-Arabs as “Ajmi” that literally means dumb.

The challenge of Holy Quran:

The centuries of hard work by Arab Bedouins and constant refinement resulted in extremely rich vocabulary and an extra ordinary Arabic literature. Therefore, Allah decided to bestow the primary miracle to the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in this very field of language that is Holy Quran.

When Quresh of Makkah rejected the claims of Holy Prophet (PBUH) of being Prophet and alleged that he himself had written Holy Quran, Allah Almighty threw a great challenge towards them. Allah in Holy Quran challenged them to create a similar piece of writing if they think that the Holy Quran is not a word of Allah.

“Or do they say: “He (Prophet Muhammad,) has forged it (this Qur’an)?” Nay! They believe not! Let them then produce a recitation like it (the Qur’an) if they are truthful.” (52: 33-34)

However, disbelievers failed miserably but Allah kept on making his challenge simpler for them and finally asked Quresh to write only a single Surah at par with the literary quality of Holy Quran. Allah describes the other challenge in the following words,

“And if ye are in doubt as to what We have revealed from time to time to Our servant, then produce a Surah like thereunto; and call your witnesses or helpers (if there are any) besides Allah, if your (doubts) are true.” (2:23)

However, again disbelievers from entire Arabia could not write even a single line that is similar in quality and meaning to any of the verse of Holy Quran. Allah Almighty also challenged them in the following words,

“Say: If the whole of mankind and Jinns were to gather together to produce the like of this Qur’an, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they backed up each other with help and support.” (17:88)

Arabs who considered their language as the master of languages were not able to imitate even a single Surah (chapter) or even Ayah (verse) of this great divine book. They completely failed to win the challenge Allah throw to them. Therefore, it was proved that Muhammad (PBUH) had not written the Holy Quran but it is indeed the word of God.

The challenge of Holy Quran is still open to everyone who is skeptic about the divinity of Holy Quran. As far as literary point of view is considered, the Holy Quran is a masterpiece of literature written in half poetic and half prose fashion. Different people have tried desperately to adjust grammatical rules according to that used in Holy Quran in order to produce a work similar in quality to Holy Quran. However, none of them has managed to succeed and no one will manage to succeed ever.
