Events Occurred in the Month of Rajab & Their Importance in Islam
Rajab is the 7th month of the Islamic Calendar. Rajab is one of the four sacred months of Islam. It is stated in the hadith: “The year is of twelve months, out of which four months are sacred: Three are in succession Dhul-Qa’ da, Dhul-Hijja and Muharram, and (the fourth is) Rajab…” (Bukhari)
Fasting is one of the most recommended acts during the month of Rajab. Fasting becomes obligatory during the month of Ramadan but is highly recommended during the months of Rajab and Shaban. Observe fasting for only one day during these months, is rewarded with untold bounties. The night of Isra and Miraj is the 27th of Rajab in which Prophet Muhammad (SAW) visited heaven in just seconds. This is one of the most important events in Islamic history, on the 27th of Rajab the night of Isra and Miraj occurred. In the Holy Quran, it is written: “Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al- Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.” (Quran, 17:1)
The night of the 27th of Rajab marks the start of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s journey as well as the mission towards propagating the true meaning behind the religion Islam. It was on this special day that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) conveyed Allah’s special message, right when the Angel Jibril came towards Him with the divine revelation.

The Birth of Imam Ali RA-the 4th caliph of Islam is the key event of the month of Rajab. Ali Ibn Abi Talib’s (عَلِيّ ٱبْن أَبِي طَالِب) Birth date is 13th of Rajab of Hijri Calendar, 13th of September 601. Ali RA was the cousin and son in law of Prophet Muhammad SAW.
