Rewards, Benefits & Types of Patience in Islam

Hardships or happiness are trials for Muslims from Almighty Allah. Religion Islam is a complete code of life it guides and teaches us in every aspect of life. Islam teaches us that we have to do patience in hard times in this way we have a strong belief in Almighty Allah that He will never leave us alone. Allah Almighty said to those who are facing difficulties or trials that He is with them by guiding, supporting and granting them a clear victory. Allah (SWT) said in the Holy Quran: “Surely, Allah is with those who are as‑Saabiroon (the patient).” (Quran, 8:46)

Patience is a praise-worthy character and distinct moral of a Muslim. Patience is an excellent mean of strength against hardships, harms, and anxieties. It provides us resistance against weakness and endows us with a steadfastness in obeying Allah Almighty. Moreover, Sabr is the weapon of a Muslim through which he will be successful both in this world and in the Hereafter. Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran: “Indeed, the patient will be given their reward without account.” (Quran 39:10)

Rewards of Patience (Sabr)

A person who loves Allah Almighty finds it much easier to be patient and to stand firm. This is because he sees everything is coming from Allah, and if it comes from Allah, there must be a reason for it. A person who loves wants the Beloved to see him in the best of states, and so he proves the best of patience. Patience is a virtue, which enables the individual to proceed towards worthy goals.

So many times, in our lives something happens to us and we feel that this is the worst thing that can happen to us. But then after the trial, when relief and ease come, we realize that the difficult times had happened for good to come.  So, it is important that believers have to be patient and know that Allah (SWT) is sufficient for us and is the best arranger of all our affairs. He will guide us to that which is good for us in this life and Hereafter too.

If we don’t get the reward of Patience in this world then it will surely be saved by Almighty Allah for the Hereafter that will never end. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “Whoever persists in being patient, Allah will make him patient. Nobody can be given a blessing better and greater than patience.” (Al-Bukhari)

Those who have patience are the rightful people to lead because Allah (SWT) conditioned the leadership with patience. Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran: “And We made from among them leaders guiding by Our command when they were patient and [when] they were certain of Our signs.” (Quran, 32:24)

Benefits of Patience (Sabr)

Patience is the source of all goods. Allah (SWT) informed Muslims who are patient in hard times in the following verse: “But if you endure patiently, verily, it is better for As-Sabirin (the patient ones, etc.).” (Quran, 16:126)

Patience brings strength and power. “Verily, he who fears Allah with obedience to Him (by abstaining from sins and evil deeds, and by performing righteous good deeds), and is patient, then surely, Allah makes not the reward of the Muhsinoon (good‑doers) to be lost.” (Quran, 12:90)

 Almighty Allah has reserved forgiveness for those who are patient. Allah Almighty says in the Holy Quran, “Except those who show patience and do righteous good deeds: those, theirs will be forgiveness and a great reward (Paradise).” (Quran, 11:11)

Those who will remain patient will enter into Paradise. Allah said in the Quran: “Those will be rewarded with the highest place (in Paradise) because of their patience. Therein they shall be met with greetings and the word of peace and respect.” (Quran, 25:75)

Types of Patience (Sabr)

Patience is of different types. Below mentioned are some types of patience that we should know about:

  • Show patience while obeying Allah (SWT) by carrying out all sort of good deeds and acts of worship
  • Show patience by not committing the sins and evil deeds
  • Show patience on the trials and misfortune that Allah Almighty decreed for us

Being a Muslim, we must adopt patience in our daily life. We must be patient in every condition to get the rewards from Almighty Allah.
