Why Islam Is Against Black Magic And Sorcery?
The fact cannot be denied that magic or black magic exists and it is one of the oldest human practices. It is one of the major condemned acts in Islam, and Islam under no circumstances allows a Muslim to opt for Black magic or any acts of sorcery associated with it.

“Suleman (Solomon) did not disbelieve, but the devils disbelieved teaching men magic.” (2:102)

Regarding, the same matter, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said in His hadith:
“Whoever goes to a fortune teller (a soothe sayer) or a diviner and believes him, has, in fact, disbelieved in what has been revealed to Muhammad (PBUH).” (Dawud)
From this hadith of Prophet (PBUH) again it becomes clear that resorting to Black magic or any of its associated branches, actually denies the Prophecy and the Message brought by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which tells a person to rely on Allah only.
2. The Power of Unseen Lies With Allah Only:
The second reason why Islam condemns Black magic and all other acts of sorcery is that these acts tend to tell a person about his or her future. According to Islamic only Allah Almighty has the power to see the unseen and only He knows of the future. Therefore, relying on Black magic as a means of knowing future, is actually against the preaching of Islam. In Quran, Allah Almighty clearly states that only He knows the unseen.
“……… His word is the truth. His will be the dominion the day the trumpet will be blown. He knoweth the Unseen as well as that which is open. For He is the Wise, well acquainted (with all things).” (6:73)
Therefore, a Muslim is to refrain from resorting to Black magic under any circumstance, as it is like relying on magic for the quality that is only attributed to Allah Almighty.
3. A Deadly Act:
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said in His hadith:
“Avoid the seven noxious things: associating anything with Allah, magic, killing one whom Allah has declared inviolate without a just cause, consuming the property of an orphan, devouring riba (interest), turning back when the army advances, and slandering chaste women who are believers but indiscreet.” (Muslim)
From this hadith of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) it becomes clear that magic is one of the noxious and deadly acts. It is the same as ascribing partners with Allah, killing someone or slandering about a chaste women. Therefore, because of the diverse implications of the act, it is considered a deadly act and a Muslim must refrain from it.
Warding Off The Effects Of Magic:
When it comes to warding off the effects of magic or any other act of sorcery, there are a variety of ways recommended by different Islamic scholars in the light of different hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) that can help protect a Muslim from magic. The lines below give some recommended acts that can help protect a person from the ill effects of magic.
1. Making Dua:
Before going to sleep every night, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would recite the following dua:
“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from all evil things, both male and female.” (Bukhari)

2. Avoiding Pictures And Dog In House:
In another hadith, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“The angels do not enter a house that has either a dog or a picture in it.” (Bukhari)
From this hadith, it can be deduced that when a house is in such a situation where the angels do not enter it, then it gets open to the attacks of the Satan. Therefore, it is imperative that Muslims refrain from all such acts that make the angels fly away from the house making it prone to Satan attacks, which can take place in the form of the effects of Black magic.
3. Surah Baqra Recitation:
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“Satan runs away from the house in which Surah Al-Baqra is recited.” (Bukhari)

4. The Three Quls:
Abu Said Al-Khurdi (RA) narrated:
“The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) used to seek protection against the evil of jinn and the evil eyes till Surah Falaq and Surah Naas were revealed. After they were revealed, He took them for seeking Allah’s protection and left everything besides them.” (Tirmidhi)
Abu Hurairah (RA) also narrated that Prophet (PBUH) said:
“Surah Al-Ikhlaas is equal to one third of the Quran.” (Muslim)
Therefore, to keep the effects of magic at bay a Muslim must recite these three Quls on regular bases and make sure that they are a part of daily Quran recitation routine.
